"French sources exercised the strongest influence on Hispanic Arthurian literature. Many of the surviving Spanish and Portuguese texts are translations or adaptations of French Arthurian works, but unlike Scandinavian or Dutch translators the Hispanic ones appear not to have been drawn to the first generation of Arthurian romancers, such as Chretien, Thomas, and Beroul. It was instead the large prose works and cycles of the thirteenth century—the Prose Tristan, the Vulgate, and the Post-Vulgate—that found Spanish or Portuguese translators."
